Lithium Tantalate (LiTaO3), possess a combi-nation of unique electro-optical, pyroelectric, piezoelectric properties and good mechanical &chemical stability , which as a material finds uses in pyroelectric ,electro-optical, piezoelectric, acousto-optical applications. LiTaO3 well-suited for numerous applications including electro-opti-cal modulators, pyroelectric detectors, optical waveguide,SAW(surface acoustic wave) sub-strates, IDT(interdigital transducer) , bulk acoustic wave devices ,piezoelectric transducers etc. With a Curie temperature of 620°C, it can operate at very high ambient temperatures and is an excel-lent infrared detector material.
Both lithium niobate and lithium tantalate can be grown with different properties for differing applica-tions, research projects and production methods. For example wafers free of pyroelectric discharge, 4″ (100mm), orientation 36°or 42°.
